Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield has defended policing in Swieqi, describing the locality’s police station as “one of the most operational” in Malta.
Speaking outside Parliament, Bedingfield was asked how frequently the Swieqi police station operates and whether it is open on a regular basis.
While he did not specify its operating hours, the minister said the station is among the country’s busiest and acknowledged that he does receive complaints about it from time to time.
However, he stressed that whenever an incident occurs in Swieqi, police officers respond within minutes.
His comments come as policing in Swieqi has come under renewed scrutiny following a series of incidents in the locality and growing calls from residents and local council officials for stronger enforcement during the busy summer months.
Do you think Swieqi needs a stronger police presence?
