The Zamfara State Government has intensified monitoring of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) to ensure transparency in the management of public funds and improve healthcare delivery.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, stated this during an inspection of the implementation of the programme at Babban Kauye Primary Health Centre in Tsafe Local Government Area and Kwatar Kwoshi Primary Health Centre in Bungudu Local Government Area.
She said the exercise formed part of routine monitoring by the state government to ensure that healthcare facilities complied with operational guidelines in the utilisation of funds under the programme.
During the visit, the commissioner inspected the procurement of essential medicines for the current quarter and reviewed antenatal care and routine immunisation records.

She also assessed the utilisation of funds released through the Zamfara State Contributory Health Management Agency.
Maradun urged health workers to maintain transparency, accountability and proper record-keeping in the management of public resources.
She also directed officers in charge of the facilities to promptly refer patients requiring specialised treatment, including blood transfusions, to appropriate secondary or tertiary health facilities.
Members of the inspection team included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Rilwanu Musa; the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board; the Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Services Management Board, Alhaji Mustapha Mafara; representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF, among others.
