A road blockade drill will take place on Monday at seven access points to the Guadalajara metropolitan area, as part of a coordinated security and emergency response initiative involving authorities from all three levels of government.
According to official notices, the drill will start at 1 p.m. and is expected to last for a couple of hours, though the duration may vary at each location.
Authorities will set up controlled roadblocks at the following entrances to the city to rehearse protocols for potential real closures due to violence, major accidents or other emergencies:
Highway to Zacatecas
Highway to Saltillo
Highway to Lagos de Moreno
Highway to La Barca
Highway to Chapala
Highway to Colima
Highway to Vallarta
Authorities have emphasized that although the road closures may cause slow traffic and delays across the city, they do not represent an actual risk to the public.
Motorists are expected to allow emergency vehicles to pass during the operation and give them priority in locations where the drill will occur. They also request that residents remain calm, seek information through official channels and avoid sharing unverified information.
Monday’s drill will take place almost five months after the road blockades that occurred on February 22 following a federal operation in Jalisco that led to the capture and death of Nemesio “El Mencho” Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, founder and top leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)
During the operation, vehicles were set on fire and roads were closed in various parts of the state and the country.
