South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) is set to announce his pick to fill the remainder of Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R) Senate term after the lawmaker’s unexpected death over the weekend.

Graham, who easily won his primary election last month, died Saturday of an aortic dissection, preliminary findings showed.

President Trump suggested Monday that Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, should replace the her brother as senator temporarily.

A handful of South Carolina Republicans have expressed interest in the open seat. A special primary election will be held Aug. 11 to take on Democrat Annie Andrews in the general election this fall.
