
TUGUEGARAO CITY – Former Batanes Gov. Vicente Gato died early Tuesday morning at the age of 81, his second cousin, incumbent Rep. Ciriaco Gato, has confirmed.
His relatives did not immediately disclose the cause of his death nor the place where he died.
Rep. Gato’s online post says: “Deeply saddened and shocked by your passing.” He said that he considered the former governor his political mentor.

The late former governor had held that post from June 30, 1998, to June 30, 2007, and again from June 30, 2010, to June 30, 2016.He turned to politics after retiring from the Navy which he served from 1967 to 1991.
He finished grade school at Itbayat Elementary School (1951–1957), graduated high school at Batanes High School (1957–1961), and completed a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree at the University of the East (1962–1966)./coa
