Police have seized a vehicle believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run south of Brisbane but are yet to find the driver.
A 20-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck on Middle Road at Greenbank shortly before 9pm on Monday.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin said the man's friends tried to help him, but he died at the scene.
"Police have seized a black Ford Falcon which at the time was not bearing any registration license plates, and this vehicle is now the subject of a forensic examination," he said.
Detective Galpin said the vehicle had a damaged bumper.
Asked if the crash was linked to reports of hooning nearby, he said it would be premature to speculate.
"This is something we will continue to investigate as the investigation progresses," he said.
Detective Galpin said it was possible the man knew the driver.
"It's a tragic event. It would be very difficult for family and friends, particularly for people who may have witnessed the incident," he said.
"It's also difficult for someone who has knowledge of this to live with this on their conscience."
Police are also looking to speak to people who were in a white LandCruiser and a dark-coloured utility both seen around the time of the crash.
