
MANILA, Philippines — Wearing handcuffs and a detainee shirt under a protective vest, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta arrived at the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) in a wheelchair to undergo an independent medical examination.
The examination was ordered by the Sandiganbayan to determine whether his continued confinement at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, Quezon City, remains necessary amid his plunder case.
Marcoleta’s medical examination was scheduled to begin at noon.

The senator is facing a non-bailable plunder case in connection with an alleged P75 million in undeclared campaign donations during the 2025 elections.

On July 6, the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant against Marcoleta and his three co-accused.

Instead of being taken to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, Quezon City, Marcoleta was admitted to the PNP General Hospital after reportedly experiencing chest pains, high blood pressure, and mild pneumonia.
Following his examination at UP-PGH, the Sandiganbayan ordered the hospital to submit a medical report on Wednesday on the senator’s condition.
