
MANILA, Philippines — At least 22 people were reported dead, while 18 remained missing as of Tuesday, July 14, due to the onslaught of the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and tropical cyclone Inday, internationally named Bavi, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
Based on NDRRMC’s latest report, the recorded deaths in over 14 areas across the country were caused by landslides and drowning, while 9 individuals were injured by the same events.
It added that figures for missing persons were from Zamboanga del Sur, Labangan, Tukuran, Davao Occidental, Jose Abad Santos, Sarangani, Glan, Lanao del Sur, Calanogas, Maguindanao del Sur, and Talayan.

But the agency said that validation of reported casualties is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, around 170,000 families are affected by the impact of the two weather disturbances, with 21,000 individuals displaced and staying in evacuation centers.
The NDRRMC also reported P3.18 million worth of damaged infrastructure, with around 1,000 houses damaged with 853 partially affected. It, moreover, said that agricultural damage has reached up to P12.50 million.
The agency said that P58.56 million worth of assistance has been provided to the affected families.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration reported in a weather advisory on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon may continue to affect the western section of Northern Luzon, bringing gloomy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Bavi exited the country last Saturday, July 11.
