MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is bringing former Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan from the law enforcement agency’s hospital at its Camp Crame headquarters in Quezon City to the Sandiganbayan on Tuesday, July 14.
The vehicle carrying Bonoan left the PNP General Hospital (GH) around 3:10 p.m.

Bonoan is expected to appear before the Sandiganbayan Second Division for its hearing on his graft case.

In an interview before the transfer to Sandiganbayan, PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group National Capital Region (CIDG NCR) chief Col. John Guiagui said it has yet to receive instructions on whether Bonoan will be returned to the hospital in Camp Crame.
“As long as there is a court order, we always follow the court orders,” Guiagui said.

Bonoan surrendered to the police last June over a plunder case in connection with alleged anomalies in flood control projects, but he was confined to the PNPGH after reportedly suffering from a spike in his blood pressure.

He was briefly transferred to the Medical City in Pasig City upon the recommendation of the PNP, citing limited testing capabilities.
However, the ex-DPWH chief was sent back to Camp Crame after the Sandiganbayan allowed him to be confined in a hospital instead of being transferred to jail but specified that he be confined at the PNPGH.

The Office of the Ombudsman previously said it sought to make Bonoan a state witness, particularly to testify against former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in looming cases related to the flood control corruption scandal. /das /gsg /mr
