The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation has issued a statement urging the public to remain focused on the evidence presented in court as the trial of Yorgen Fenech continues.
In a post shared on social media, the Foundation said the defence appeared to be inviting jurors to consider whether responsibility for Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination lay with Keith Schembri or Chris Cardona rather than Yorgen Fenech.
However, it stressed that “allegations alone are not evidence”, adding that no sufficient evidence had been presented in court to show that either Schembri or Cardona paid for the assassination.
The Foundation argued that the evidence alleging Yorgen Fenech financed the murder was “clear-cut”, saying the proceedings are about determining his responsibility based on the evidence presented in court.
“Justice for Daphne depends on facts, evidence, and accountability,” the statement concluded.
