MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau said on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon or habagat, the only remaining weather system directly affecting the country, is expected to further weaken over the next two days.
This came after an LPA outside the PAR developed into a tropical depression on Tuesday afternoon. Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said that the said tropical cyclone was last seen 940 kilometers west-northwestward of Extreme Northern Luzon or in the vicinity of Guangdong, China as of 3 p.m.

Estareja said that the tropical depression is far from the landmass and will not have direct affect to the country, as well as tropical depression Josie that weakened into an LPA on the same day. He noted that the tropical depression outside PAR is not enhanced by the southwest monsoon.

“In the next two days, the southwest monsoon will continue to weaken in our country and rains will lessen in the western section,” Estareja said in the 5 p.m. weather forecast.
“Starting today until the weekend, we are not seeing a new tropical cyclone to enter the PAR. But before the month of July ends, a tropical cyclone is possible to enter,” he added.
Wednesday weather forecast
Estareja said that huge portions of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience fair weather conditions due to the weakening of the southwest monsoon. Meanwhile, he noted that overcast skies and isolated rainshowers are possible over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija.
He also said that fair weather conditions will prevail over Palawan and major parts of Visayas and Mindanao. He added that thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon and evening, which he said is not related to any tropical cyclones of LPA.
