The Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has warned that no child should be allowed to miss school because of poverty.
He therefore called on wealthy individuals and philanthropists to support children from less privileged families by assisting with the payment of their school fees to enable them access quality education.
The monarch made the appeal at the graduation ceremony of pupils of UMRABS School in Tudun Jukun, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, held at the weekend.
The who expressed dismay on the increasing level of out-of-school children roaming the street in major cities of the North, urged the community to assist by shouldering the educational responsibility of such children.
The Emir also urged parents not to relent in providing sound moral upbringing and quality education for their children, stressing that the family remains the foundation for building responsible future leaders.
He said parents must work closely with teachers to ensure children receive proper guidance, discipline and academic excellence.
Bamalli expressed satisfaction with the impressive performances displayed by the graduating pupils during the ceremony, describing them as evidence of the dedication and commitment of the school’s teachers.
According to him, the confidence, discipline and academic abilities demonstrated by the pupils reflected the sacrifices made by their teachers in nurturing them.
Speaking on the state of education in the country, the Emir stressed the need for communities to complement government efforts by supporting children whose parents cannot afford school fees, noting that no child should be denied education because of poverty.
He commended the management of UMRABS School for maintaining high academic standards and combining western education with sound Islamic studies.
Earlier, the Director of the school, Dr Isa Saidu, while appreciating the Emir of Zazzau and members of his entourage for honouring the graduation ceremony, described his presence as a morale booster to the Younger ones and great honour that would remain memorable in the history of the institution.
He distanced UMRABS School from the practice in some schools of imposing excessive graduation ceremony charges on parents, saying the institution does not exploit parents under the guise of organizing graduation celebrations.
Dr Saidu then reminded parents of the importance of complying with the school’s rules and regulations to ensure smooth academic activities of their children.
