A young person lost consciousness after suffering heatstroke earlier today, the Malta Red Cross Society has revealed, as it urged the public to take extra care during the ongoing heatwave.
In a statement shared on social media, the organisation said its volunteers have responded to several heat-related emergencies across the country in recent days, particularly at Malta’s beaches.
The most serious incident involved a young person who suffered heatstroke, lost consciousness and required emergency medical assistance.
With temperatures expected to remain high, the Red Cross warned that extreme heat should not be taken lightly and urged the public to take the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of heatstroke.
The organisation is advising people to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear light clothing and a hat, remain in the shade whenever possible, and avoid strenuous physical activity between 11am and 4pm.
The warning comes as Malta continues to experience a spell of exceptionally hot weather, with health authorities repeatedly urging people to take precautions, particularly the elderly, young children and vulnerable individuals.
