Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani said Iran has invited President Prabowo Subianto to visit Tehran, after he attended the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Muzani said the invitation was conveyed by Iranian officials during his visit to Mashhad, Iran, to attend Khamenei's funeral.
"The Iranian government hopes to invite President Prabowo Subianto to visit Tehran," Muzani said on Tuesday.
He said he had relayed the invitation to President Prabowo after returning from Mashhad.
Muzani said he did not know whether the president had responded to the invitation.
Last Thursday, Muzani and Foreign Minister Sugiono traveled to Mashhad as President Prabowo's special envoys to attend the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Muzani conveyed condolences from the Indonesian government and people over Khamenei's death following a US-Israeli military strike on Tehran on Feb. 28, 2026.
"We extend our deepest condolences and share the grief of the Iranian people over the loss of a respected leader. We pray they are granted strength during this difficult time," he said.
During the visit, the Indonesian delegation met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Muzani said Ghalibaf conveyed his greetings to the Indonesian people and government.
