Udine Mayor Felice Alberto De Toni
has been placed under investigation on suspicion of vote buying,
judicial sources in the Friuli city said Tuesday.
Also under investigation are opposition councilor Stefano Salmè
and his partner, Daniela Perissutti, vice president of "Arriva
Udine," a publicly held local and suburban public transportation
company, TV 12 reported.
The case stems from a complaint filed in 2024 by twelve
opposition councilors, except Salmè, asking the judiciary to
open investigations into two incidents: a pre-runoff agreement
with Ivano Marchiol—who was appointed councilor after De Toni's
election—and the appointment of Daniela Perissutti in exchange,
again, for electoral support.
Both cases were dismissed, but the councilors who signed the
complaint objected to the Salmè case, and so the investigating
judge, Cinzia Del Torre, has scheduled a hearing for next
September.
At that time, the judge is expected to decide whether to
definitively dismiss the case or order the public prosecutor to
conduct further investigations.
