Vince Muscat told the court that the Degiorgio brothers accused him of “snitching” after discovering he had begun cooperating with police following his arrest.
Testifying in the jury trial of Yorgen Fenech, Muscat said he started assisting investigators in the hope of obtaining a presidential pardon.
He told the court that the Degiorgio brothers eventually learned of his cooperation through Melvin Theuma, who he said remained in “constant contact” with them while they were in prison using a burner phone.
After being referred to his previous testimony by prosecutor Godwin Cini, Muscat recalled that he and the Degiorgio brothers had managed to smuggle a hidden mobile phone into prison, which they used to communicate with Theuma.
Muscat also testified that he had informed police about Theuma, identifying him as the person who had been passing money on to the group.
