Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani expressed confidence in Iran's commitment to resolving its conflict with the United States through diplomacy, following talks with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Mashhad.
During the meeting last week, Muzani said Indonesia believes Ghalibaf can play a key role in advancing a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Iran and the United States.
"We do not doubt his commitment to ending the war. We conveyed that directly when we met in Mashhad," Muzani said on Tuesday.
According to Muzani, Ghalibaf is serving as Iran's chief negotiator in talks with the United States.
Muzani said the message reflected the shared hope of Indonesians and the international community for a peaceful end to the conflict.
"Even under these difficult circumstances, we hope all parties can find a peaceful solution to the tensions and conflict," he said.
Muzani and Foreign Minister Sugiono traveled to the holy city of Mashhad on Friday (July 10) as special envoys of President Prabowo Subianto to pay respects at the burial site of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
During the visit, Muzani said Mashhad appeared to function normally despite the conflict, with no visible signs of wartime conditions.
"People were carrying on with their daily activities, and there was no visible military presence in the city," he said.
The delegation also discussed the safe passage of Indonesian oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
"The issue of Indonesian vessels transiting the strait was discussed, although I believe it was mainly handled by Foreign Minister Sugiono during his meeting with his counterpart," Muzani said.
