Premier Giorgia Meloni's cabinet on
Tuesday gave the green light to a bill containing the latest in
a series of packages aimed at boosting security and it also
nominated Guido Stazi, the secretary general of Italy's
antitrust authority, the new president of stock-market regulator
CONSOB.
The security bill aims to further crack down on so-called
'maranza' gangs of violent youths.
A previous package approved in February also targetted these
youth gangs, with a ban on knives with blades longer than 8cm
being carried outside the home, without a legitimate reason,
punishable by prison terms of between six months and three
years.
Stazi's nomination ends a long impasse over CONSOB's new boss,
which has had an interim president since Paolo Savona left the
position in March.
