EXCLUSIVE: The Purge architect James DeMonaco is set to direct Vigilant for Miramax.
In the project, a pilot program transforms crime fighting into a cash game, rewarding ordinary citizens for capturing wanted criminals. But as the nation races toward a vote to take the program nationwide, the line between hero and hunter disappears, and the country teeters on the brink of sanctioned chaos. We understand the Vigilant is in a similar spirit to The Purge.
Sébastien K. Lemercier is producing off an original screenplay by Tyler Stevens and Wade Stanton. DeMonaco did a rewrite along with Krystal and Alon Ziv (The Purge TV series).
Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman brought the project with him to the studio from his prior company Panoramic. Miramax Film Group President Ali Loewy and VP of Film, Arianna D’Andrea are overseeing Vigiliant.
DeMonaco is repped by UTA. Tyler and Stanton are repped by WME, Range, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
Miramax has had a great summer, reviving the big screen comedy with the Wayans Brothers’ franchise, Scary Movie, which has minted north of $228M at the global box office. Upcoming for Miramax is the the Frankie Shaw directed Liam Neeson action title, 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank.
