
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A series of earthquakes occurring within a short period in the same area can be alarming, but experts say this phenomenon, known as an earthquake swarm, is different from the typical pattern of a major earthquake followed by aftershocks. The explanation comes as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported an earthquake swarm off Claveria, Masbate, where dozens of tremors have been recorded since July 13.
