A loud bang could be heard in Auckland's Ōrewa as a military device found on the beach was detonated.
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and Police detonated a piece of military ordnance found on the shoreline of Ōrewa Beach on Tuesday.
Police had kept a perimeter around the device overnight.
NZDF's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team performed a controlled detonation of the device about 12pm on Wednesday.
A loud bang could be heard from the nearby Marine Parade.
