
MANILA, Philippines — Tremors were observed in Masbate and Davao Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Wednesday.
At 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental, with the epicenter located 24 kilometers northwest of Sarangani Island. Previously, a 4.6-magnitude aftershock rocked the area 40 kilometers west of Balut Island early Tuesday, July 14.
Phivolcs reported instrumental intensities over the following areas brought by the 4.6-magnitude quake:

Intensity III – Glan, Sarangani
Intensity I – City of General Santos; Malungon, Sarangani; Tuip, South Cotabato.
The tremors are aftershocks from the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit the offshore of Sarangani and the 6.6 magnitude offshore earthquake in Davao Occidental, Phivolcs said.

Meanwhile, Phivolcs also reported a 4.7 magnitude quake that hit Masbate on Tuesday afternoon. Its epicenter was located 30 kilometers southwest of Claveria, Masbate, with a depth of 4 kilometers.
The 4.7 quake reported Intensities over the following areas:
Intensity III – Catanauan, and General Luna, Quezon
Intensity II – Pasacao, Camarines Sur; San Andres, San Narciso; Buenavista, Macalelon; Guinayangan, Quezon
Instrumental intensities were also recorded over the following areas:

Intensity II – Mulanay and Gumaca, Quezon
Intensity I – City of Legazpi, Albay; Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; Pili and Sipocot, Camarines Sur; Boac, Marinduque; Aroroy, Masbate
Phivolcs also issued a cancellation of recommendations for minor sea-level disturbances for the July 14 earthquake that hit Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
“Based on data from our sea-level monitoring stations, no unusual sea-level changes were observed during the three-hour extended observation period, and no reports of unusual sea-level changes were received,” Phivolcs stated in an advisory. /das
