Person dies after crash between bus and car south of Cardrona

A person has died after a car and bus collided on the Crown Range, between Queenstown and Wānaka.

Emergency services were called to the crash, south of Cardrona, about 10.15am on Wednesday.

Police said the car's sole occupant died at the scene, but no one in the bus was reported to be hurt.

Queenstown Lakes District Council said the road was closed between Cardrona and Eastburn Road with the alternate route being State Highway 6 via Cromwell.

Queenstown Lakes District Council earlier issued a warning for icy conditions and possible black ice on the road.
