A coalition of rights activists, the Kano Civil Society Alliance for Peaceful Politics, has called for the immediate suspension of all political rallies in Kano as a precaution against violence and to protect lives and property as political activities ahead 2027 gather momentum.
Convener of the coalition Ambassador Abdullahi D.Mohammed in a press statement said the astronomical rise in cases of political related violence, Yan,’daba, and political thuggery in kano is alarming attributing the surge to politicians who allegedly fund and direct violent gangs during electioneering.
The coalition said clashes between rival gangs have become more frequent, with armed thugs chasing and killing victims while chanting party slogans, noting that despite a 2025 government amnesty offering rehabilitation to over 1,300 repentant thugs, the menace persists, threatening democratic stability in Kano State .
The coalition then called for the immediate cessation of all political-related rallies in the State similar to how the authorities suspended Sallah Durbar to prevent breakdown of law and order until a comprehensive security framework is put in place.
It recommended Town Hall Meetings in small venues instead saying Kano is greater than any individual or institution.
