
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government, through the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), distributed relief assistance to residents affected by the July 14 fire in Tondo.
District Welfare Office II’s final report showed the fire damaged 321 houses in Barangays 163 and 152, destroying 272 and partially damaging 49.
A total of 321 families, or 1,231 individuals, were affected by the incident. Displaced residents stayed at an evacuation center in Lakandula High School, where hot meals are distributed. The city government assured that relief efforts, as well as financial assistance will be provided to support the affected families.

“The city government of Manila, led by Mayor Isko Moreno, will strive to deliver the necessary aid and support to every family affected by the fire to help them get back on their feet and start over,” MDSW said in a Facebook post.
The fire lasted over 3 hours, starting at 4:03 p.m. and was declared out by 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the Manila Public Information Office, the cause of the incident is still under investigation. — Rendell Manuel, INQUIRER.net trainee /das
