Hog deaths in Negros Occidental ‘under control’ amid ASF outbreak

BACOLOD CITY—Some 14 localities in Negros Occidental have recorded hog deaths, with nine confirming positive cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) as of Monday, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday.

A total of 2,185 pigs have died across the 14 affected localities due to various swine diseases, Lacson noted.

However, the governor emphasized that the losses represent only 3.53 percent of the 61,854 hog population in those areas.

Given these figures, Lacson described the overall mortality rate as low.

“I hope we can keep this up,” Lacson said. “The important thing is that everyone follows protocols and border controls are in place to prevent the spread of ASF.”

While the situation remains manageable, the governor warned against complacency.
