The government’s e-ID service has now stabilised after experiencing temporary disruptions earlier today following a surge in traffic as students rushed to access their MATSEC results.
In a statement, the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) said the issue was triggered after MATSEC sent students an SMS and email containing a direct link to the results portal.
The unexpectedly high number of users attempting to log in at the same time generated an exceptional spike in authentication requests to the government’s e-ID service, which is also used to access platforms including myHealth and other online government services.
As a result, some users experienced delays, interruptions and difficulties logging into the affected platforms.
MITA said its technical teams responded immediately by implementing mitigation measures and increasing system capacity to restore normal service.
The agency confirmed the situation has since stabilised, with users now able to successfully access the affected services. It added that it will continue monitoring the system and take any further action necessary to maintain service availability.
MITA also thanked the public, particularly students and their families, for their patience, while wishing all students the very best with their results and future endeavours.
