Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai is seeking a stronger strategic partnership between Indonesia and France, with a focus on politics, security, strategic industries, and regional resilience to tackle global challenges.
Representing President Prabowo Subianto at a diplomatic reception for French National Day (Bastille Day) in Jakarta on Monday (July 14), Pigai stated that Indonesia-France bilateral ties are built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to achieving peace, stability, and prosperity.
"Bastille Day is a powerful symbol of liberty, civic values, and the democratic spirit—principles that resonate deeply with Indonesia. These shared values serve as the core pillar of our partnership," the minister said in a statement on Wednesday.
He noted that bilateral relations between Indonesia and France have progressed positively over recent years, particularly in the fields of politics and security.
Pigai added that President Prabowo's state visit to France in May 2026 and meeting with President Emmanuel Macron marked a major milestone in elevating ties toward a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
"This partnership reflects a modern approach to diplomacy, one that integrates cooperation in defense, strategic industries, maritime security, and resilience against evolving global challenges. It is built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a stable Indo-Pacific region," he remarked.
The minister also expressed his appreciation to the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, the French Embassy, the French community, and key partners for their contributions to strengthening bilateral relations.
Closing his speech, Pigai called on Indonesia and France to continue strengthening a strategic, dynamic, and forward-looking partnership that can contribute significantly to peace, stability, and prosperity for both nations and the Indo-Pacific region.
