A Hong Kong court found two prisoners guilty of helping a correctional officer attack a fellow inmate who was left severely wounded after a stick was repeatedly thrust into his rectum.
The District Court on Wednesday convicted Bosco Lee, 21, and Brian Lam Shing-wai, 22, of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm for their involvement in a brutal assault on a prisoner at Pik Uk Prison in Sai Kung on December 26, 2023.
The main attacker, Tam Lik-chung, an ex-assistant officer with the Correctional Services Department, earlier pleaded guilty to the same offence.
But Lee and Lam, who were remanded and under Tam’s supervision at the time of the violence, denied taking part in it.
The assault happened after the victim – identified in court by his surname Chiu – sprinkled Tam with baby powder from behind during a bingo game in the prison’s activity room. One of the game’s rules was that the loser would get sprinkled.
After the game ended, Tam led the group to a staircase, where he told Chiu to bend down on his knees and take off his trousers.
