
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The police arrested two suspects and intercepted a truck that loaded with some 570 sacks of charcoal without the required transport permit in Pinamalayan town on Wednesday.
The Pinamalayan Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the suspects were apprehended at an Oplan SITA checkpoint in Barangay Papandayan following a tip from a concerned citizen about a suspicious closed van loaded with charcoal.
Police said they seized around 570 sacks of charcoal with an estimated value of P171,000, along with the truck bearing plate number CCD 7122.

The suspects failed to present the necessary transport permit, prompting authorities to charge them with violating Section IV of Provincial Ordinance No. 015-2011, which regulates the transport of charcoal in Oriental Mindoro.
The arrested individuals, the confiscated charcoal, and the impounded vehicle will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, for appropriate administrative and legal action. /gsg
