Prabowo demands report on former Jampidsus corruption case

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto summoned Attorney General S.T. Burhanuddin for a closed-door meeting on Saturday, July 11, to obtain a direct report regarding the alleged corruption case involving former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah (FA).

State Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi confirmed the meeting on Wednesday, stating that the President demanded a direct, firsthand briefing on the investigation's progress.

"Because an incident has occurred, of course, he (President Prabowo) wants a report," Prasetyo stated.

The meeting took place just hours after Febrie Adriansyah resigned from his post early Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon, the former top prosecutor was formally declared a suspect in a sweeping corruption and money laundering investigation.

When questioned on whether the administration is attempting to resolve the high-profile case discreetly, Prasetyo clarified that the government's primary focus is preserving economic and political stability rather than managing public relations.

"One of the requirements for economic development is stability," Prasetyo said, echoing the President's policy stance.

"Of course, we hope to reduce and minimize unrest by ensuring stability. That is the spirit," he added.

As the investigation into Febrie deepens, the Attorney General's Office (AGO) is moving swiftly to fill the leadership vacuum at the critical Special Crimes unit.

The Palace confirmed it received a formal proposal from the Attorney General on Tuesday, July 14, to appoint a new Jampidsus. A presidential decree is expected to be signed by President Prabowo as early as this week.

Prasetyo confirmed that Kuntadi, who currently leads the AGO's Asset Recovery Agency, is among the candidates proposed by the Attorney General.

However, he declined to name the other candidates currently under consideration.
