The MATSEC Examinations Board has officially published the results for the 2026 examination session, with more than 9,700 students receiving their grades.
A total of 4,148 candidates received their Matriculation results, while 5,573 students received their Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) results.
Education Minister Byron Camilleri congratulated students who achieved their desired results, describing the exams as an important milestone. He also encouraged those hoping to improve their grades not to lose heart, stressing that support will continue to be available.
“Our commitment remains to create an environment where students can reach their full potential and develop all their skills,” Camilleri said.
This marks the second year in which SEC results reflect Malta’s reformed assessment system, combining School-Based Assessments (SBAs) with the final examination.
Under the current system, students can sit exams at different levels, with Level 3 remaining the benchmark required for entry into sixth form, while Levels 1 and 2 can be used to continue studies at other post-secondary institutions.
The Ministry said the model also allows students whose final exam performance falls short of Level 3 to still achieve the qualification overall if their SBA results are strong enough to compensate.
In core subjects including Mathematics, English and Maltese, the number of students achieving Level 3 remained broadly in line with previous years.
Subjects including Chemistry, Computing, Geography and Dance recorded an increase in the number of students obtaining a Level 3 SEC qualification.
Camilleri also confirmed that the government will once again offer free summer revision classes for students wishing to improve their grades ahead of the September resit session, describing the initiative as one that has made a positive difference in recent years.
