The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) has shared highlights from a five-a-side football tournament it co-hosted with the United States Embassy in Malta, bringing together members of Malta’s disciplined forces for a day of sport and camaraderie.
In a post on its Facebook page, the AFM said the tournament took place last Monday at the Safi Barracks football ground, against the backdrop of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
The competition featured two AFM teams alongside representatives from the Correctional Services Agency (CSA), the Malta Police Force (MPF), the Civil Protection Department (CPD) and the US Embassy in Malta.
The event was attended by AFM Commander Brigadier Clinton J. O’Neill and US Ambassador Somers Farkas, who officially opened the tournament with a ceremonial first kick.
According to the AFM, the event was about more than just football, serving as an opportunity to strengthen teamwork, build camaraderie and reinforce the close professional relationships shared between the participating organisations.
