The Gombe State Police Command has arrested three suspected criminals in separate operations, recovered a stolen vehicle and seized suspected housebreaking tools.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed the arrests in a statement summarising the command’s operations over the past 24 hours.
According to him, one of the suspects, Micah Nuhu, was arrested for alleged armed robbery and causing grievous bodily harm after he reportedly attacked a woman, identified as Mama Kingsley Joseph, with a pestle before making away with her purse.
Police said the stolen purse was recovered, while the victim was rushed to Cottage Hospital, Bambam, for medical treatment.
Abdullahi said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect, identified simply as Mubarak, who allegedly fled the scene.
In a separate operation, police operatives arrested two suspects, Nasiru Aminu, 40, and Jamiu Muhammad, 33, at a hideout in the Tumfure area of Akko Local Government Area.
During the operation, officers recovered 39 master keys and a screwdriver, which police suspect were being used for housebreaking and other criminal activities.
The command said the suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In another development, the police recovered a Toyota Yaris allegedly stolen after its owner, Sani Ahmed, was attacked by unidentified assailants.
According to the command, the assailants allegedly stabbed the victim before throwing him out of the vehicle near Tumu-Kashere Junction and fleeing with the car.
The victim was rescued and taken to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Police said the stolen vehicle was later found abandoned near the Army Barracks in Gombe and has since been recovered and secured.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has commenced an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents that it would sustain intelligence-driven operations to rid Gombe State of criminal elements.
It also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention and ongoing investigations.
