The Malta International Airport (MIA) Met Office has issued an orange weather warning as “feels like” temperatures are forecast to climb to a sweltering 42°C on Saturday.
According to the latest forecast, apparent temperatures are expected to reach 40°C on Thursday, 39°C on Friday, before peaking at 42°C on Saturday. They are then forecast to ease slightly to 40°C on Sunday and 37°C on Monday and Tuesday.
The Met Office has explained that the exceptionally high “feels like” temperatures are being driven by Malta’s current weather conditions, with very dry air and low humidity affecting how the heat is experienced.
Meanwhile, the Ministry for Health has urged the public to take precautions during the heatwave, advising people to keep cool, stay out of direct sunlight where possible and drink plenty of water.
