Sharon Rocha—whose pregnant daughter Laci Peterson and unborn grandson were murdered in 2002—addressed her former son-in-law Scott Peterson’s plea to overturn his murder conviction: “I'm tired.”
What Scott Peterson Believes Happened to Laci Peterson 20 Years After Murder Conviction
Laci Peterson’s mom Sharon Rocha is speaking out against her former son-in-law.
After Scott Peterson—who was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife Laci and the pair’s unborn son Connor in 2002—had his petition to overturn his sentencing denied by a judge in San Mateo County Superior Court in April, Sharon addressed his ongoing efforts to prove his innocence.
“It's the same thing we've heard in the courtroom before,” Sharon said in A&E’s upcoming documentary Scott Peterson: The New Evidence, per People, premiering July 16 and 17 on the network, “and it just continues.”
Though the 53-year-old’s petition was filed by the Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP), Sharon said she’d rather they use their resources on “somebody who may actually be” innocent.
While it’s been more than two decades since her daughter and grandchild’s murders, Sharon opened up about how Scott’s repeated appeals make her loss that much more painful.
“It is never ending, and it's like ripping the scab off a wound every time,” she said of Scott’s multiple petitions—with the latest one offering 14 new evidentiary claims regarding what may have led to his wife and son’s deaths—according to People. “All they're looking for right now is to throw everything against the wall and hope that something sticks.”
In 2002, Laci's stepdad reported the pregnant 27-year-old missing after she disappeared on Christmas Eve, at which time Scott claimed he’d been out fishing.

By April of the next year, the remains of a male fetus were found near the San Francisco Bay, followed by a portion of a woman's body after which Scott was shortly arrested.
He was eventually convicted of first-degree murder of Laci and second-degree murder of their unborn son. Scott is currently serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Bottom line: He is guilty, and that's it,” Sharon emphasized. “Maybe I shouldn't sound so harsh, but I'm tired. I'm very, very, very tired.”
And above all, she wishes she could have her little girl back.
“I miss her being here,” she said of Laci. “She was not only my daughter, she was my friend. For him to have done this to her…The lies, the deceit. It breaks my heart for her.”
