A taxi driver in Lisbon has been arrested for the 21st time this year after allegedly continuing to drive despite having his driving licence revoked, according to Portugal’s PSP police.
The latest arrest was made on Monday (July 13) by officers from the PSP’s Metropolitan Command of Lisbon Traffic Division during a routine inspection.
In a statement, the PSP highlighted the extraordinary number of previous arrests.
“Despite the citizen having already been arrested on 20 previous occasions during 2026 for the same reason, he continues to engage in the same conduct,” the police force says.
Officers also discovered the driver did not hold the mandatory Taxi Driver Certificate, a legal requirement for operating a taxi in Portugal.
The PSP said that offence will also be reported to the relevant administrative authority.
The suspect has been formally named as a suspect (arguido) and released under a Term of Identity and Residence, Portugal’s standard bail measure, while awaiting questioning by the Public Prosecutor.
