A seven-year-old girl was sucked into
the drain of a beachside swimming pool and critically injured on
the Ligurian Riviera on Wednesday.
After the accident at a beach club in Sestri Levante, the girl
was rushed to Genoa's Gaslini Children's hospital in code red
and is reportedly in critical condition.
As soon as her family realized the girl was trapped in the
water, emergency services began responding.
First, the club's lifeguards, then the ambulance crew dispatched
by 118, spent over half an hour resuscitating the girl, who was
then airlifted to the Gaslini.
The Coast Guard and Carabinieri of Sestri Levante were on site.
The facility has been impounded.
