Vice President J.D. Vance is suggesting Republicans have a relatability problem with voters.
The second in line to the presidency said as much during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s popular podcast this week, arguing more voters find Democrats “cool” than they do Republicans.
“Republicans still fundamentally have a cool problem,” Vance told Rogan. “There’s something more charismatic, more cool about the Democrats as opposed to the right.”
The vice president made reference to Rogan earlier in their conversation saying, “there are too many dorks on the right or something.”
“There’s a lot of dorks,” Rogan confirmed.
“Fair,” Vance agreed. “I’d say there’s a lot of dorks on the left.”
“There’s a lot of dorks on the left, too,” Rogan chimed in. “It’s a different kind of dork.”
Vance is one of several Republicans who have been named as a possible successor to President Trump at the end of his second term.
He has been charged with selling the American people on the ongoing U.S. strategy in dealing with Iran and led the administration’s efforts to fight what it calls waste fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
Rogan is among the most popular figures in media, particularly among young men, a key demographic Republicans will be looking to retain in coming elections.
The podcaster and UFC commentator endorsed Trump and Vance days before the 2024 election but has since broken with the president on issues ranging from his aggressive immigration agenda and handling of the Jeffery Epstein files.
“He clearly had connections to the highest levels of American intelligence,” Vance said of Epstein at another point during his conversation with Rogan. “He clearly had connections to the highest level of Israeli intelligence.”
