MANILA, Philippines — Generally fair weather and isolated rain showers are forecast to prevail over parts of the country on Thursday, July 16, the state weather bureau said.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 a.m. weather advisory that the southwest monsoon, or habagat, may affect only Extreme Northern Luzon, bringing gloomy skies and occasional rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
“Today, our southwest monsoon is only affecting Batanes and the Babuyan Islands,” Pagasa weather specialist Leanne Loreto said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience hot and humid weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain due to localized thunderstorms.
Generally fair weather conditions are forecast over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao within the next two days, according to Loreto.
She added that no weather disturbances are expected to develop inside the Philippine area of responsibility within the next 4 to 5 days.
However, the southwest monsoon is forecast to strengthen and affect the western section of Northern and Central Luzon over the weekend.
“We do not expect any new weather disturbance to form over the next four to five days. However, by the weekend, we anticipate the southwest monsoon intensifying and affecting the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon,” Loreto reported. /das
