MANILA, Philippines — “It’s a MIRACLE!”
This is what Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson wrote on X early Thursday following Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s independent medical examination at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
“Entered in a wheelchair and went out doing a brisk walk. Kudos to [University of the Philippines]-PGH for putting professionalism and integrity above all other considerations in submitting their medical report to the Sandiganbayan,” he added in his post.

Lacson did not name Marcoleta in his post, but Lacson’s remarks came a day after the Sandiganbayan ordered Marcoleta’s transfer to the New Quezon City Jail following an independent medical examination at PGH, ending his nine days of hospital arrest.

On Tuesday, Marcoleta was seen arriving at PGH in a wheelchair for the examination.
He came from the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH), where he was admitted after complaining of chest pains and hypertension following his arrest.

Following the PNPGH’s finding that he was fit to travel, the anti-graft court ordered Marcoleta to undergo an independent medical examination at PGH to determine whether he still needed to remain hospitalized.
PGH doctor Gerardo Legazpi told the court that the senator had recovered from pneumonia and that his hypertension could be managed outside the hospital.
According to Legazpi, PGH doctors likewise unanimously concluded that Marcoleta had no medical condition requiring hospitalization.
Marcoleta is in detention following the Sandiganbayan Third Division’s warrant of arrest against him and three other co-accused in connection with his plunder case over a P75 million campaign donation he received while serving as a congressman, which state prosecutors said was not declared in his financial and campaign disclosures. /das
