
PAGADIAN CITY – Authorities recovered alleged smuggled cigarettes valued at almost P7 million during a joint law enforcement operation in Barangay Muricay here early Thursday morning.
Capt. Derf Jay Maquinta, spokesperson for the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, said the city police, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, conducted the operation at around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report of abandoned contraband in a vacant lot in Zone 7.
Maquinta said operatives recovered 40 master cases and 240 reams of assorted cigarette brands.

Personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BoC), barangay officials, and barangay tanods witnessed the inventory of the recovered items.
Based on the initial valuation conducted by BoC personnel, the confiscated items were estimated at P6,908,000.
The cigarettes were brought to the Pagadian City Police Station for documentation, safekeeping, and proper disposition.
The city police conducted follow-up investigations to identify the owner and determine the origin of the alleged smuggled shipment, in coordination with the BoC and other concerned government agencies./coa
