The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has admitted 78 new members into the human resource profession in its first-ever virtual induction ceremony.
The landmark 71st Induction Ceremony underscored the Institute’s commitment to innovation, professional excellence and digital transformation, while reaffirming its statutory mandate as Nigeria’s only regulatory body for the practice of human resource management.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, described the event as a significant milestone that reflects the Institute’s resolve to embrace innovation without compromising professional standards.
“Today is special. It is historic, memorable and symbolic because it represents the future we often speak about as HR professionals. This is our very first virtual induction ceremony,” he said.
Gobir noted that the decision to conduct the induction online was in line with the Institute’s advocacy for agility and innovation in the workplace.
“As HR professionals, we constantly advise organisations to be agile, innovative and responsive to changing realities. At CIPM, we practise what we preach. There was no need to keep HR professionals waiting, so we chose innovation over tradition,” he stated.
He described the newly inducted members as “78 success stories,” stressing that their admission into the Institute represents more than the award of professional certificates.
“You are receiving much more than a certificate. You are receiving professional recognition, credibility, a badge of trust and greater responsibility. Every time you append ACIPM, MCIPM or FCIPM to your name, you are making a statement that you belong to a profession,” he said.
The CIPM President urged the new members to uphold the highest ethical standards, embrace lifelong learning and actively participate in the Institute’s activities at branch, chapter and national levels.
Delivering the keynote address, Reverend Dr. Collins Edebiri, challenged HR professionals to evolve beyond traditional administrative responsibilities and position themselves as strategic partners driving organisational transformation.
Speaking on the theme, “Raising the Bar of Professional Standards: HR as a Steward of Transformation,” Edebiri said the HR function has become central to organisational success through talent development, culture building, leadership development and workforce planning.
He stressed that today’s HR professionals must possess strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, data-driven decision-making skills, coaching ability, innovation and sound ethical judgment to remain relevant in a rapidly changing business environment.
According to him, HR practitioners are no longer merely custodians of policies but architects of organisational success, responsible for shaping organisational culture, enhancing employee engagement and delivering sustainable business performance.
In her closing remarks, the Vice President of CIPM, Mrs. Chidinma Justina Obiejesi, FCIPM, encouraged the newly inducted members to recognise the significance of joining the profession at a time when HR is playing an increasingly strategic role in organisations.
She urged them to uphold the Institute’s values, maintain high professional standards and serve as agents of transformation in their respective workplaces.
