The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed the defection of some of its members to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), insisting that the development does not weaken the party or alter the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, the APC described the defections as the decision of “a handful of individuals” whose exit should not be interpreted as a sign of dwindling support or a shift in the political direction of Bauchi State.
The party argued that the strength of any political organisation is determined not by the movement of a few members but by the resilience of its structures, grassroots reach, internal discipline and continued support from the electorate.
According to the statement, the defectors had long become disconnected from the party’s collective decisions and political direction, adding that their formal exit merely confirmed a separation that had already become apparent.
“The departure of a few disgruntled individuals cannot be mistaken for the movement of the people,” the statement said.
The APC maintained that its structures remain intact across all 20 local government areas and the state’s 323 wards, stressing that its mobilisation efforts and membership drive continue to gather momentum.
The party said it remains focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the objective of securing Bauchi State for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reclaiming the Government House, and winning seats in the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly and other elective positions.
The APC also called on its members and supporters to remain committed to grassroots mobilisation and engagement across communities, expressing confidence that it remains united and well-positioned to offer what it described as a “credible, disciplined and purposeful alternative” for the people of Bauchi State.
