Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Tourism Ministry and Danantara Indonesia, the country's sovereign wealth fund, have discussed efforts to boost investments for the development of event venues, particularly for music concerts.
"We have discussed with the CEO of Danantara (Rosan Perkasa Roeslani) regarding investments in event venues, especially for concerts," Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said following a press conference here on Wednesday (July 15).
According to the minister, the discussions were held in response to complaints from promoter associations concerning the scarcity of dedicated concert facilities in Indonesia.
She noted that while Jakarta already boasts large-capacity venues, such as the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex and the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), these facilities were primarily designed for sporting events.
"Currently, concert promoters have to compete with sporting events for the use of GBK, which is why dedicated venues need to be developed, although we also have JIS (which is often used for music concerts)," she said.
Nevertheless, Wardhana pointed out that hosting music concerts at JIS is often hampered by limited transportation access and heavy traffic congestion.
To improve connectivity, the Transportation Ministry and Jakarta Provincial Government have inaugurated the operation of JIS Commuter Train Station and the pedestrian bridge (JPO) connecting the stadium with Ancol Dreamland.
"Now, it is just a matter of easing the traffic. I believe the governor has started addressing the issue," the Tourism Minister stated.
In addition to seeking investments for new venues, the Tourism Ministry is working to simplify and expedite the permit issuance process for event organizers.
Wardhana emphasized that hosting various events can directly impact the development of tourist destinations.
Such activities, she noted, create jobs and business opportunities for locals, artists, and entrepreneurs, generating a multiplier effect in tourist areas.
Therefore, the ministry is actively bolstering the national event industry ecosystem through its digital platform, Event by Indonesia, and its local cultural event curation program, Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN).
