Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Judicial Commission (KY) is collaborating with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to conduct background checks on candidates for Supreme Court justice and ad hoc judge positions in the 2026 recruitment.
According to a statement on the official KY website cited on Thursday, the involvement of PPATK in the screening was discussed during a meeting between KY leadership and PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana in Jakarta.
KY Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan stated that the background checks would involve exchanging financial transaction analysis data. This builds upon the two institutions' existing partnership aimed at monitoring judges' financial transactions.
“KY will utilize this data exchange to enforce judicial ethics, specifically regarding transactional misconduct within the court system or money laundering offenses. The criminal enforcement will be handed over to the relevant authorities,” he said.
Abdul noted that the data exchange will also be used as evidence when investigating judges suspected of judicial corruption, as well as for further investigative tracing.
KY Deputy Chairman Desmihardi explained that the collaboration with PPATK helps KY overcome its limitations in proving ethical violations by judges.
Abhan, the Head of KY's Judicial Oversight and Investigation Division, expressed hope that the financial transaction analyses requested by the commission could be delivered promptly.
This accelerated data sharing, he added, is part of KY's efforts to meet public expectations for swift action regarding alleged violations of the Judges' Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct (KEPPH).
The meeting between KY leadership and the PPATK head, which discussed plans to renew the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties, took place at the PPATK office in Jakarta on Thursday (July 9).
Leaders from both institutions agreed to step up cooperation to strengthen their respective functions and authorities.
During the meeting, PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana welcomed the enhanced collaboration, noting that the technical details required to accelerate the data exchange requested by KY could be implemented.
He affirmed that the collaboration between PPATK and KY is deeply rooted, primarily driven by the sharing of financial transaction data.
"In total, we have processed 45 reports, with the analyzed transactions valued at nearly Rp250 billion (approximately US$13.8 million)," he added.
A total of 36 Supreme Court justice candidates, four human rights ad hoc judge candidates, and two corruption ad hoc judge candidates at the Supreme Court are currently undergoing the 2026 recruitment process, which is now at the background check verification stage.
On July 28, 2026, KY is set to announce the candidates who have passed the health and personality selection.
