According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the heat index measures how hot it feels to the human body by combining air temperature and relative humidity.
Pagasa classifies heat index levels as “caution” ( 27°C to 32°C), “extreme caution” (33°C to 41°C), “danger” (42°C to 51°C), and “extreme danger” (52°C and above).
Under the “extreme caution” category, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, while prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity may lead to heat stroke. Similar health risks remain under the “danger” category, with a higher likelihood of heat-related illnesses.
Peak heat conditions are typically experienced from midday to late afternoon.

Authorities advised the public to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, to stay hydrated, wear light, breathable clothing, avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, and to regularly check on vulnerable individuals, including children, senior citizens, and those with medical conditions.
Pagasa suspended the issuance of heat index forecasts early last month to focus on accurate and timely weather information during the rainy season.
