Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir confirmed that no Indonesian nationals have been reported to be affected directly by the escalation of hostilities between the United States and Iran in the Hormuz Strait.
"We received no reports so far about the escalation in the region directly affecting Indonesians there, including those injured from the attacks," Nasir stated after attending the meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Thursday.
Indonesia's Foreign Ministry and its embassies and consulates in the Middle East continue strengthening coordination and situational monitoring for the safety of Indonesians in the region, he stated.
All Indonesian embassies in the region delivered regular reports about security conditions in their jurisdiction, including reports about the conditions of Indonesians living or traveling there.
"The report was conveyed directly to the foreign minister through a conversation group that can help them make regular reports," he added.
The government also acted to ensure Indonesian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia were not affected by the developing situation in the Middle East.
He confirmed no reports about Indonesian Umrah pilgrims affected or stranded in airports that were forced to be closed due to conflict-related disruption.
Indonesian embassies in the region have also deployed their officers to regularly monitor the conditions of the pilgrims and ensure their safety, he remarked.
The Indonesian government has taken measures to protect its interests and nationals in the Middle East following the escalation of the conflict between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks.
The US military has launched a series of attacks on Iran since last week to destroy Iran's capability to attack commercial ships in the Hormuz Strait.
Washington also imposed again the naval blockade on Iranian ports, with over 20 US Navy ships and hundreds of military jets deployed in the Middle East.
The tension between the US and Iran escalated again despite the two countries inking a peace memorandum, through Pakistani mediation, to end their conflict and realize permanent peace in the region.
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday claimed to have destroyed US military equipment and drones while attacking bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump decided to backtrack on his earlier plan of a 20-percent transit toll for all cargo ships crossing the Hormuz Strait after receiving investment commitments from Arab countries.
