
This year marks an important milestone for our company and, over the coming weeks, we’d like to share how a small estate agency with a simple idea grew into one of the Algarve’s leading specialists in luxury real estate.
Twenty years ago, the Algarve property market looked very different from today.
Most estate agencies sold a little bit of everything, from modest apartments to luxury villas. We believed there was room for something different: a company dedicated exclusively to the luxury market, offering exceptional properties backed by genuinely personal service.
It was a simple idea, but in 2006 it wasn’t the obvious one.
Exclusive Algarve Villas opened its first office in Lagoa with a team of just four people covering the area between Carvoeiro and Lagos. We never set out to become the biggest agency. Our ambition was simply to know our market inside out, speak our clients’ language, be available when they needed us and offer straightforward, honest advice.
That approach quickly struck a chord.
As more overseas buyers discovered the Algarve, our reputation gradually grew. Many clients came to us because they wanted a specialist who understood the luxury property market rather than an agency trying to cater for every type of buyer.
Then, in 2008, everything changed.
The global financial crisis brought the property market to an abrupt halt. Sales slowed dramatically, confidence disappeared and many businesses faced an uncertain future. We were no different.
Those years tested us, but they also taught us some of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned in business. Success isn’t built by chasing quick wins. It’s earned through resilience, consistency and looking after your clients, whatever the market is doing.
While some agencies disappeared, we concentrated on strengthening our business, improving our service and preparing for the opportunities we believed would eventually return.
With hindsight, those difficult years shaped our company far more than the easy ones ever could. They reinforced the values that continue to guide us today: honesty, professionalism, local knowledge and a genuine commitment to every client who places their trust in us.
At the time, we had no idea what lay ahead. But both the Algarve and Exclusive Algarve Villas were about to enter a remarkable new chapter.
