Abadi Masela LNG project supports national development: Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that the realization of the Abadi Masela Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) National Strategic Project (PSN) will assist the country's national development and industrialization.

"This project entails a massive investment of US$20.9 billion, nearly US$21 billion. The facility will produce over 9 million tons of gas condensate and other products, which will greatly assist development in Indonesia," Prabowo stated.

While officiating the project's groundbreaking virtually from Merdeka Palace, here, on Thursday, he noted that Indonesia requires an adequate energy supply to accelerate economic transformation through downstreaming and industrialization.

According to the president, advancing the energy sector is vital to establishing Indonesia as a modern and productive country.

"We are determined to become an industrialized and modern nation, and we are resolute in ensuring our people lead decent lives," he remarked.

Prabowo emphasized that profits from natural resource processing and management are necessary to finance various government programs, ranging from healthcare services and education to infrastructure development.

"We need the funds to provide the best healthcare services, and we need them to pay our teachers' salaries so that our schools are on par with those abroad," he said.

The head of state noted that strategic projects such as the Abadi Masela LNG play a crucial role in supporting the national economic transformation while simultaneously improving public welfare.

The Abadi Masela LNG project is being developed by INPEX Masela Ltd. in collaboration with Indonesia's state-owned energy firm Pertamina and Malaysia's Petronas.

In addition to a production capacity of 9.5 million tons of LNG per year, the facility is designed to supply 150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of domestic piped gas and produce around 35 thousand barrels of condensate per day to bolster national energy security.
